This has been a very busy weekend indeed. I started demolition of a wall separating my current and cramped studio and a good sized empty storage space. The hardest part isn't the labor, but rather the wiring! Don't worry, I haven't electrocuted myself yet. Though I always do at least once when working with any high voltage wiring (see past entries).

Whoever owned this house before was a horrible wannabe electrician. Every light in the house is on the same breaker. Okay, that sucks, however! The worst is the spaghetti of crisscrossed, poorly mapped wiring throughout the place. So knocking down the wall was easy. It is going to take a week to pull, cut and sort the wires to get them to specifications (and placed in useful, high-draw amplifier locations).

I've also been selling a ton of stuff. Mostly computer parts from the lab. Catching up on a bunch of reading. Working on some software projects. Etc., etc. So yes, I've been busy.

Oh yeah. I hate summer.

Last night the band British Sea Power came to the Black Cat in DC. Since I have two weeks of nothing between jobs here, I had some expendable time on hand.

This was one of the more exciting shows I've seen in a while. The set was decorated with lots of foliage, mini-trees, etc. Smelled like Vietnam in early 70's (I'm guessing, of course). They are such a great live band, very active and loud. I forgot my camera so I only got a couple photos with my cell phone.

After the show ended, the trek to El Hefe (my Jeep) was wet. Man did it pour. Like a hurricane. Lighting too. It was awesome. And I forgot that wiping wet glasses with a wet shirt does no good whatsoever.

I start the new job tomorrow. Back with NASA, this time at Goddard Space Flight Center doing some really cool things. Mostly IDS stuff and working on a few open source projects I've been involved with for a while (see Procyon Labs).

Oh yeah, this article is so great:

A Silver Mt. ZionJust got back a little while ago from seeing Thee Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band (formerly A Silver Mt. Zion) and Vic Chesnutt at the Black Cat in DC. Shitty club with shitty staff, but good shows tend to go there. And so do I.

It was a great show, I've wanted to see Vic play for over a decade and I finally did! He played a relatively short set, but hearing him sing and play just a few feet in front of me was really special. Do some research on him, you'll be amazed.

As for ASMZ, this was the first time I've seen them live. Though I've seen Godspeed You! Black Emperor a number of times (many members drifted from that band to this). They were wonderful live! And getting to talk politics with Efrim and general chit-chat with Jessica and Sophie was really nice. They are the sweetest and nicest musicians next to Alan and Mimi of Low.

I put the pictures up already (I remembered my camera this time) in the photography section. Have a look. It is time for sleep now.
